The complex word endodontics literally means ‘the study of the inside of teeth’. A dentist who focuses on endodontics is therefore primarily concerned with the core of the teeth, also known as the root canal system.

When you are in need of an endodontic treatment, you may experience unpleasant symptoms. This is because there is a sensitive nerve inside your teeth that causes this. Dental nerves are located in every tooth in the mouth. It is a living tissue consisting of blood vessels and nerve fibers. Inflammation in the living part of the tooth can therefore cause pain and/or sensitivity.
The most common complaints with, for example, root canal inflammation are sensitive teeth with cold or very hot food or drinks and a throbbing pain in the relevant tooth. You may also suffer from pain in the tooth when biting. Such inflammation can have many different causes. This includes not only trauma from a blow or accident or a fracture in the tooth.
Overloading due to teeth grinding, leaking fillings, tooth decay, and exposed dentin can also be the cause of inflammation. In most cases, the dentist will be able to determine the cause of your inflammation quite quickly and treat it, so that you are quickly relieved of your complaints.
